A Historic Preschool Serving Puyallup Since the 1960s
More than 55 years ago, a local preschool teacher named Ms. Barbara dreamed of creating something better—something that gave young children more than just socialization. Inspired and determined, she and her husband transformed their barn in Puyallup into a preschool filled with laughter, music, and hands-on learning. That simple dream became Buttons & Bows Preschool, and it’s been a beloved part of the community ever since.
Over the decades, our school has grown in size, heart, and impact—but we’ve always stayed true to our roots.
Timeline of Our Journey
- 1960s: Buttons & Bows founded by Ms. Barbara in a family barn
- 1980s–1990s: Expanded to multiple classrooms and new staff
- 2000s: Welcomed second-generation families into the program
- 2020s: Introduced Brightwheel, STEM, and Montessori-inspired learning
Today, that same red barn still welcomes new generations of little learners. Many of our families are second- or third-generation alumni—parents who proudly bring their children back to the same place they once sang, played, and learned. Our preschool is more than just a school—it’s a legacy.
A Family-Run Preschool Built on Purpose and Passion
Carrying Ms. Barbara’s vision forward is a dedicated team of educators, including a lifelong Puyallup resident and former counselor with over 20 years of experience in early childhood education. With a master’s degree in educational leadership and deep roots in the Puyallup School District, she leads with both heart and expertise.
What makes Buttons & Bows unique is that it’s still truly family-run. Our leadership team isn’t just passionate about education—they’ve raised children and grandchildren in this community. Their deep understanding of what families need and value creates a school culture built on trust, connection, and purpose.
